Whimsy matters a lot to me, as it feels like one of the remaining reliable ways to communicate directly with my inner child. Whimsy is… playfulness, a sense of casual mischief without a victim or malicious intent, and while it may not be a direct challenge to the status quo, it does represent a sort of soft repudiation; it looks at the way thing have always been, cocks its head and asks ‘…okay, but what if?’
This piece, originally created in 2014 (wow), comes from a desire to find some whimsy during a time where it was sorely missing. Initially, it was paired with the phrase “Wherever your travels may take you, be brave.” which has been truncated to just “Be Brave.” for after all, you need not always go abroad for trouble waters to find you. Regardless, whenever turbulence abounds, I hope you find the strength our intrepid bunny friend embodies here.
